So What’s In a Name?

So I have finally decided to take the plunge into the blogosphere. Of course this brings many questions to my mind:

  • What will I blog about?
  • Will I have content to keep it fresh and current?
  • Why the heck would one want to blog?
  • And better yet, why would anyone want to read what I have to say?

I decided to make my first blog about ‘What’s in a name?” because it was one of the first things I had to do to get this blog set up.  Choose a username….and the thoughts start churning…   do I keep the name I always use; come up with a new one..use my real name. I love my screen name. CARLOVERKAT…it is pronounced car…lover…kat. My name is Kathie, and quite simply I love cars. It’s as easy as that. It’s a username I use pretty consistently, and am hoping a name that will build a solid reputation in social media.

So Who Am I?

I am a mother to two beautiful daughters and a grandmother to my wonderful 7 1/2 year old grandson. I am a mother-in-law to my daughter’s husband.  I am a homeowner, a laboratory technician by profession, an Information Technology professional by trade. All these things are labels…but are they me? Again I ask…as we all do from time to time…who am I? And quite simply, in life, I have to come realize I am me… a very simple person, with very simple wants (outside of my passion for shoes of course).

So Why Worry About Who We Are?

So many of us are in search of that elusive truth of ‘who am I’.  I think it has taken me a long time in life to become comfortable with me, my simple needs and wants. A hot chocolate on a cold night, a warm blanket over my lap while I am watching TV, a roof over my head, good food (of course I can LIVE on Pizza), a good glass of wine, laughter to fill my soul, challenges to feed my brain. These are, to me, the simple things.

Am I a Brand?

We do so much talking in Social Media about being a brand; about representing a brand, about separating you from the brand and can you even do that. I do believe that even as an individual I represent a ‘brand’. I am the brand of  grandmother, Mom of my Manchester clan (my brood). I am proud of that brand, and keep in mind at all times that what I do reflects on the people I love.

And there is the brand at work. Again, all my actions represent my brand. I can not separate one from the other. There is no ‘off’ and ‘on’ switch. It is all a part of me…of who I am, of what I represent as a human being. I put my all into everything I do, be it at work or play. There really isn’t a lot of room in life for doing things halfway. If you are going to do it, then jump in. If you keep testing the waters with your little toe, you may miss the most pleasurable swim you could have ever had.

So welcome to my blog. I hope we get to have a lot of good conversations. A little bit about a lot of things. Let’s keep it conversational. I would love to hear back from you! Let’s take that swim together and be passionate about all we do!

  3. Kathie, I’m so excited you’re blogging! I can’t wait for the opportunity to get to know you even better, especially through writing, where we tend to share things we might not have time to in a one-on-one conversation. The deeper things.

“I am proud of that brand, and keep in mind at all times that what I do reflects on the people I love.” I was just talking to Scott about this very thing last night. For me, it’s about my family name. I never want to bring reproach upon the rest of my family, or to those in my inner circle, by their association with me. That goes for our business as well!

Looking forward to your posts. 🙂
